day 30

I know priests can seem busy and many of them are overworked but if you keep searching, you can find one who will answer your questions either in person or online!  find that when I’m in a rut or having trouble taking on a spiritual task that I earnestly want to do but can’t quite seem to tackle, the best thing to do is to ask a priest.

Priests are full of wisdom!  Every time I’ve ever spoken to one, I’ve come away learning something new.  I love seeing the true warmth of a priest who is on fire for God.  Of course not all of them are animated or even joyful sounding but all of them have dedicated their lives to Christ and that’s a pretty amazing thing!

So if you’re still struggling to read the bible or to make it a daily habit, go find a priest and ask him what he think you should do.  I can’t even begin to predict the answer because that’s the fun part about priests – they’re all so different!

MY BIBLE REFLECTION:

“‘In the last time there will be scoffers who will live according to their own godless desires.’ These are the ones who cause divisions; they live on the natural plane, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, build yourselves up in your most holy faith; pray in the holy Spirit.  Keep yourselves in the love of God and wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.” Jude 17-21

Oh man, the urge in me to live my own godless desire is strong.  I have to fight that all the time.  I think it’s my sinful flesh, my brokenness – it cries out for pleasure and sloth and thinking only of myself.  That is why I need the bible.  That is why I need Adoration.  That is why I need Mass.  That is why I need Confession.

I need the spiritual weapons that God has given me to build up my resistance.  So that as I find myself reaching for worldly pleasures at the expense of Jesus I receive the grace of a second; a mere second where I change my mind and rethink my priorities.  These whispers are short but all I need to turn away from sin and back toward God.  It doesn’t always work.  Sometimes my sinful nature is too strong and my saturation of God filled things is too weak, that’s when I fall.

But the good thing about Catholicism is that our great Church will always be there to pick us back up again, to recharge us, to offer forgiveness and to give us energy to try again; the strength to fight on!

This is why I believe so strongly that all Catholics should be bible readers!  We need to be covered in this grace.  We need to build up our resistance so we can be strong in those moments when sin is tugging at us.  We need the truth that Jesus came to bring us so we can follow his light to eternal life with his father.
