day 12I have only recently tried doing this but I really like this method of reading the bible.  You pick a book of the bible and you read the whole thing in one sitting!  It really give you a sense of accomplishment and it also tells a whole story.  You really get the sense of what the author was trying to communicate in the whole book.

Here is a list of the books in the bible (I think this is a Protestant resource so it doesn’t have all the Catholic books) and it lists approximately how long it takes to read each one.

Since I got to Galatians in my own bible reading, I have naturally been reading a whole book at a time.  It’s been so fun and interesting to do this! I feel like I know the authors a little bit better having read an entire letter that they wrote at one time.  So block out some time on your calendar, pick a book that you have time for and dive on in!

MY BIBLE REFLECTION:

“Similarly, older women should be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to drink, teaching what is good, so that they may train younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, chaste, good homemakers, under the control of their husbands, so that the word of God may not be discredited.” Titus 2:3-5

As a Catholic mom, I love having this as an image of what I’m working toward.  Be a woman of God, who doesn’t gossip, who isn’t a slave to pumpkin spice lattes, who takes care of her home, who listens to the counsel of her husband and who teachers younger women the wisdom she has learned.  I hope to be this kind of woman someday.

I wish there were more women in my life who were older and who would take the time to share their wisdom with me.  Since I don’t have many that I know in person who I could have coffee with, I often turn to books to discover this wisdom.

If you are an older woman, I would urge you to make time to counsel younger women.  We desperately need to learn the lessons you have already learned.

If you are a younger woman who has access to an older woman, take time to serve her tea and listen to her story.  Listen to what she has learned over time.  Learn how she serves God, her husband and her children.  No doubt she has many gems to share with you.
