day 25

I’ve just completed the first week of the 33 Days to Morning Glory program and so I’m in a very Marian place right now.  This is a recommendation that I haven’t tried myself yet but I intend to do so after writing this.  Find a comfortable place with either a statue or a picture of our Blessed Mother and ask her to guide you through the bible.  Ask her to whisper the truths into your heart and to point out the parts you should focus on.  Go about your regular reading but let your heart be open to your mother’s gentle hand.

I think of sitting with my own children and pointing out small details in the illustrations or pausing to explain a certain sentence we just read.  Imagine the Blessed Mother doing that with you as you read your bible.  She will have a different perspective; a unique way of looking at her son’s story.  Ask her to make those impressions on your heart as you’re reading.

I’m excited to try this.  I think it will be eye opening to read the bible through a mother’s eyes!

“His divine power has bestowed on us everything that makes for life and devotion, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and power.  Through these, he has bestowed on us the precious and very great promises, so that through them you may come to share in the divine nature, after escaping from the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire.” 2 Peter 3-4

My husband and I went to confession and vigil Mass last night so this morning, we decided to take a nature walk with our children.  It was a crisp fall morning and we walked for a while in silence just taking in the sights and sounds.  It felt poetic.  God created this beautiful world for us to live in and I’m guilty of not enjoying it enough.  Sometimes I think I focus too much on blocking out the world or “escaping from the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire,” and though it is good to be vigilant and not give into these evil ways, it is not good to leave the natural and beautiful world God created for us unnoticed.

He loves us so much and He created this world for us to enjoy.  He wants us to take a walk and enjoy the sound of crunching leaves and smile at the squirrels darting across our path.  Sometimes I let the state of our world darken my heart.  I’m not doing my whole job which is not only to NOT give into the darkness but to shine LOVE and HOPE and TRUTH there instead.  God is love.  He made this world with love.  He loves you.  He loves me.

I’m glad I took a moment to pause and enjoy his creations this morning.  I encountered Him there and it helped me relax and let go of some of the things that had been dragging me down this week.  He is so good like that; always giving us what we need.
